Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
